Matin shares her powerful story of navigating a difficult childhood marked by love and fear. The profound grief and loss she experienced after her mother's passing at 13 led to immense trauma, shattering her sense of stability and belonging. Despite these challenges, her healing journey became a path to self discovery, fostering an inner resilience and a deeper relationship with herself.

Matin Miryeganeh grew up in northern Iran in a home where love and fear lived side by side. When her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, then later died when Matin was just thirteen, she found out in the most devastating way possible: by squeezing a hand that didn't squeeze back. What followed was a cascade of losses. Her mother's family. Her father's emotional availability. The permission to grieve at all.

She studied in secret through high school, slept on storage room floors to avoid going home, moved from Iran to Japan on a scholarship, survived trauma no one should face alone, and slowly, quietly, built a bond with herself that carried her through it all.

In this episode, Matin talks about growing up with an unpredictable father, the loneliness of losing her entire support system at once, what it took to build a life across continents, and why, at forty, she finally feels at peace.

Topics covered:

- Childhood grief and growing up without permission to feel sad
- The complexity of loving a parent who is both caring and frightening
- Isolation, resilience, and self-connection
- Building an academic career from nothing, including moving to Japan
- Surviving trauma and refusing to let pain become identity
- What inner peace actually looks like when it finally arrives

Matin is also the author of All Is Well, a memoir about this journey. Find it on Amazon or Goodreads by searching "All Is Well Matin."
