Jan Becker and his friend Christian had just finished shooting a documentary about a vision quest. Then the holidays came. Jan went to Germany to see his mother. Christian went to the Caribbean.

On the fourth of January, Jan woke to a text from a journalist he knew. Is it true? Christian had died in a plane crash, along with his two daughters, who were nine and eleven.

Jan's first thought was that he had to finish the film. The money for post production was frozen. So he edited it himself, for a year, with his friend's face on the screen in front of him.

In this part of his conversation on The Life Shift, Jan talks about that year, the retreat that seemed to prepare him, and the twenty-four hours he spent alone in a valley that felt like walking back into the ancient past.
