Flight paramedic Jeff Abbott shares how a helicopter crash that killed his friend and pilot led to first responder PTSD, eighteen months of anger, and finally asking for help.
Jeff Abbott has been a paramedic for 25 years. A Critical Care Flight Paramedic, base manager, guy who functions calmly in chaos because that's the job. The kind of person everyone else leans on.
On April 26th, 2022, a helicopter crash killed his friend and pilot Jim. Jeff responded in another aircraft, held his people together all day, and then went home and broke down in his wife's arms. What followed was eighteen months of anger, nightmares, panic attacks, and a slow realization that being built for this doesn't mean you're immune to it.
