What if that pivotal moment was just the beginning?

Coming Out as a Trans Woman at 45: The Filter That Changed Everything

Chloe Kelly shares her late transition story, from 45 years of performing a life that wasn't hers to the FaceApp moment that changed everything, and the joy she lives with now.

Chloe Kelly spent 35 years being very, very good at not being herself. She played sports. She climbed the career ladder. She found her soulmate. She earned all the man points. And underneath all of it, a quiet dripping tap she couldn't turn off.

Then, at 45, during her lunch break, she downloaded a face-filter app. She pressed a button. And she couldn't look away from what she saw.

In this conversation, Chloe shares what it felt like to carry that weight for decades, the FaceApp moment that cracked everything open, what it was like to tell her wife, and what life looks like now that she's living it as herself. She's currently calling in from Buenos Aires, where she's writing a travel memoir about solo travel across 18 countries as a trans woman in her forties. She got the word "joy" tattooed on her back. She's annoyingly, sickeningly happy.

What we cover:

- Growing up earning "man points" and what that kind of performance costs
- The lunch break that changed everything
- Coming out to her doctor, then her wife, and why those were two very different moments
- Losing male friendships and gaining female ones
- Solo travel in non-queer-friendly countries and what happened in a Kazakhstan spa
- What she'd say to the person she used to be
