Not That Weird: When the Thing You Hid Becomes the Thing You Give
Kate Saint Clair spent decades fighting her intuition before accepting her gift as a psychic medium. This episode explores shame, sensitivity, and finding your voice.
Key Takeaways
- Kate Saint Clair grew up hiding her intuitive abilities, spending years trying to appear normal and fighting the truth of who she was.
- A pivotal moment in a park, where an intuitive voice guided Kate and her toddler away from danger, served as a catalyst for her transformation.
- Facing a skin cancer diagnosis stripped away Kate's inclination to perform for others, forcing her to stop deferring and start truly leading.
- Kate's life shift teaches us that embracing the thing you were born for brings peace and helps you move from self-doubt to self-trust.
- As a Human Intuition Expert, Kate now focuses on teaching intuition as a practical, embodied skill rather than just reading for others.
Some of us have known something about ourselves for a very long time. And we have spent just as long trying to pretend we didn't.
Kate Saint Clair grew up seeing and hearing things no one around her could explain. She was the curious kid who asked too many questions and got lies as answers. The sensitive one who felt everyone else's feelings as if they were her own. For years, she tried to be the tough kid. The normal one. The person who didn't see anything. But the knowing didn't go away. It never does.
This episode is about the long, quiet war between who you are and who you think you're allowed to be. Kate's shift didn't come from one single moment. It came in pieces: a voice in a park that moved her and her toddler away from danger. A skin cancer diagnosis that stripped her of every way she'd been performing. A six-year-old girl making a deal with her dead grandfather in a dark bathroom and then spending two decades honoring it. What she eventually found wasn't just peace with her gift. It was herself.
What You'll Hear:
- How growing up feeling "too sensitive" became the foundation of a career helping others
- The moment Kate heard a voice in a park that may have saved her daughter's life, and what it finally pushed her to do
- Why a skin cancer diagnosis became the unexpected turning point that made her stop deferring and start leading
- What it looks like to fight the thing you were born for, and what finally makes you stop
- How Kate shifted her career from reading for others to teaching everyone that the ability is already theirs
- The story of a six-year-old girl, a closed bathroom door, and a grandfather she refused to talk to for nearly twenty years

Matt Gilhooly (00:00)
There's a specific kind of loneliness that comes from being a kid who feels everything. Not just your own feelings, but everyone else's, all at once, with no way to tell which are yours. My guest this week, Kate, grew up exactly like that. A sensitive kid who saw things she couldn't tell anyone about, slowly convincing herself that something was wrong with her. She's a psychic medium, and I will be honest, I came into this carrying my own skepticism like I usually do. But what got me was how human she is about all of
Someone who spent years praying the whole thing away before she finally stopped running from it. One of her lines in the sand came in a park when she realized that her two year old daughter had the very thing she had been trying to bury.
Kate Saint Clair (00:41)
and as we were walking around a little lake, a man was walking towards us, and I heard a voice in my ear say, Pick her up and take her towards people, he'll follow you. So I picked up my toddler and we walked across the grass towards people, and sure enough, the man had turned around and started following us.
Matt Gilhooly (01:31)
Hello everyone, welcome to the Life Shift Podcast. I am here with Kate. Hello, Kate.
Kate Saint Clair (01:36)
Hello Matt, nice to be here.
Matt Gilhooly (01:38)
Well, thank you for
wanting to be a part of the Life Shift podcast. This has been quite a journey. And I don't think even a twenty-year-old version of Matt could believe that I have such an honor and opportunity to speak with people like yourself from all over the world, all sorts of walks of life, and somehow be so present that I black out and don't remember what we talked about in the conversation, which
Which is a good thing to me because I used to be so attached to making sure I said the next best thing or sounded smart or, you know, whatever those controlled pieces of me were. I mean, it was a protection thing. So now I just have this honor of having people's stories unfold in conversation with them. So thank you for just wanting to go down this road with me.
Kate Saint Clair (02:28)
Yeah, absolutely. I'm excited too.
Matt Gilhooly (02:31)
Stories are are so important too. I've realized the story of sh the power of staring sharing my story and the power of other people sharing their story because you never know what part of your story is going to resonate with someone else and make them feel validated in what they were thinking or feeling or feel less alone. So stories are just so important.
Kate Saint Clair (02:52)
Yeah, to give yourself a voice but also to share that part. And as you know, but I think the good thing about social media and being able to record stories and listen and TikTok and all the things, you really realize you're not alone. Maybe
Matt Gilhooly (03:04)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (03:05)
not specifically that, but in general, you know, we the human experience, you know, yeah,
Matt Gilhooly (03:10)
Pretty similar.
Kate Saint Clair (03:11)
none of us get away without something either. So, you know, that's
Matt Gilhooly (03:15)
Yeah. I have realized that though. Like
I I can't I d haven't had the exact same sp experience as anyone that I've talked to in almost three hundred episodes now. But nearly every story, the emotions that I've had are very similar, so I can relate there, you know, the ups and downs. You know, like all like you said, the human experience is really not that different. We just go through different actual moments in our lives.
Kate Saint Clair (03:41)
That's for sure. Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (03:43)
So
before we get into your story, can you tell us who Kate is in twenty twenty six? Like how do you show up in the world? How do you identify these days? And however you want to answer that is good with me.
Kate Saint Clair (03:52)
how to capture it. Our life, my life changed again two years ago when we moved from Colorado, where we raised our kids, to Southern Illinois, where I just launched my oldest into college a few years ago. But I just took my baby to college. So for the last two weeks, I'm a mama bear that was told I never have kids and nobody ever would ever love me. To
having two launched kids, successful, excited, married 22 years.
My career is expanding and growing as I had a career in Colorado real in person, real intimate. And since we moved to Southern Illinois, it forced me to go online and really expand my heart and my community. And it's just been incredible. Book two coming out in October, making connections of a lifetime. So I'm in a place I I never dared to dream I'd be in my life.
Matt Gilhooly (04:44)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (04:45)
Really, really feeling that the last couple of weeks of the miracle of it.
Matt Gilhooly (04:48)
Yeah. That's I mean, that's beautiful. Also, empty nest.
Kate Saint Clair (04:52)
Yeah, there's an emptiness that I prepared for that I wasn't
Matt Gilhooly (04:54)
Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (04:55)
prepared for that first week, but I was so all in, I could feel that. You know, where I was aware it was fleeting and I'd never get it back. And I feel a lot of satisfaction in a way. I didn't know I'd was possible as a parent.
So I I'm in the the first week was horrific. You know, the quietness and the silent rooms and stuff. But they text me and they call me every day and and it's just it's a joy 'cause there's a confidence and a a joy there I did not think would be possible for my children. And it is. So
Matt Gilhooly (05:29)
Yeah, that's exciting. And now you get to see what they do with their own lives. You know, I mean you've seen
Kate Saint Clair (05:32)
So yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (05:33)
some of it, but you were part of that. And now they get to do things kinda in a good way without you and make, you know, decisions and mistakes and good decisions, you know, whatever it may be. So that probably is exciting and scary all at the same time.
Kate Saint Clair (05:46)
For sure. Well,
I'm just excited to meet them as adults, you know, even just driving to college with my son. He DJ'd. I drove his truck. He DJ'd and just to hear his music, you know, and to see the world through his lens. I mean, it just expands my life. That's
Matt Gilhooly (06:00)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (06:00)
all, you know, it's the beginning of a huge expansion for all of us. And I mean they're such good people. I just I can't wait to see. I can't wait to see where my life goes through them.
Matt Gilhooly (06:09)
That's that I mean, can't ask for much more than that. Good for you. And it's a great outlook as well. I think there's a lot of people that really struggle with this period. So I'm glad you're you're finding that joy or excitement for the future.
Kate Saint Clair (06:23)
And Matt, check on me in a month. Maybe I'll
maybe I'll be in the gutter again.
Matt Gilhooly (06:27)
Well listen,
we all go through ups and downs. It's okay. That's yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (06:31)
this moment it's good, but you know,
you asked me in just the right time. But yeah, maybe in three months I'll be who knows where I'll be.
Matt Gilhooly (06:39)
Well, let's maybe we can find our way there through your story. I would love for you to paint the picture of your life leading up to the main life shift moment that we're gonna talk about today, fully understanding that you've had many of them, I'm sure, in your life, but the one that you feel maybe creates that line in the sand of a before and after version of you. And you can go back as far back as you need to. Like, I mean, maybe don't give me the chronological day one, day two, day three, but
Give
us some sense of the before version of Kate.
Kate Saint Clair (07:07)
Well, a a healer I'd worked with recently helped me really put it in perspective. I had a rather normal life till about five years old.
Matt Gilhooly (07:15)
Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (07:15)
Mom and Dad were married. We went to we were, you know, I was raised Catholic. I come from huge, my mother's side of the family is huge, my father's side of the family is huge. And then like after the divorce around six, everything was different. And I didn't understand that because I had a a certain normalcy to it.
I'd never been okay after that because it was never what it was. So even that was that that sort of defor the the divorce, as I think I heard you say your folks were divorced as well.
And you know, it's just different. It's just different going back.
But sort of my father decided to just kind of go play house with another family and kind of felt like we were the burden or like we shouldn't be there. So kind of raised that way. And then my mom just kind of did her own thing.
And I was this kind of like intuitive, sensitive kid, so I could feel everybody's feelings. But at the time I felt like they were all my feelings. So I didn't know
Matt Gilhooly (08:07)
Mm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (08:08)
how to differentiate, you know. So I just felt like something was really wrong with me, or I was angry, or I was severely lonely, or severely all the things. you know, I was the kid who asked all the questions that kind of got lied to at the end of the day, you know, for whatever reason.
Matt Gilhooly (08:23)
From family. Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (08:24)
Yeah, you know, nobody
be straight and you can feel that as a kid, but then you interpret it as like there's something wrong with you, you're not interpreting it right, or something. So
Matt Gilhooly (08:31)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (08:32)
just really on my own after the divorce, but sort of the one little kid because I had a sister, but I was the one like, why aren't we doing this still, or why can't we talk to each other like we did, or why can't like why can't we love each other still? Like just I just did not understand. So yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (08:47)
That's so interesting too, as there's just a young child.
I mean, it must be your connection, you know, that intuition, because I don't remember life before my parents got divorced really. Like just little blips. But I think they got divorced when I was like five or six as well. And all I know is them divorced. So I don't have I don't necessarily have that connection there. Like I just don't it's so fascinating that you haven't. I wonder if it's because you're so
In tune.
Kate Saint Clair (09:16)
Sounded like your folks were really loving still. It sounded like your
Matt Gilhooly (09:19)
Yes.
Kate Saint Clair (09:19)
folks were really good people. And I felt like the divorce was an excuse to be as selfish as they were. So just different parents, if you know what I mean.
Matt Gilhooly (09:27)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (09:28)
That's why when people say, you know, I got divorced, no big deal. I was like, okay, maybe not for you, but for some, it's like you're now you as the kid is are now the problem. And that was very much my lived experience. So
Matt Gilhooly (09:39)
Hm.
Kate Saint Clair (09:40)
always getting the message, my mom didn't want me, my dad was a burden.
I connected more with my dad, he was kind of funner, I guess, you know, because my mom was just always pissed off and grumpy. It's like, you know, so she she it I felt that resentment. And then, you know, I would see spirits and I'd see things, and then nobody would validate that. So you'd learn to kind of keep that into and you don't tell anybody, and there's a lot of shame and there's a lot of terror. And then you're
Matt Gilhooly (10:07)
I bet.
Kate Saint Clair (10:08)
yeah, and then you're c it through the Catholic lens, you're kind of
convinced convincing yourself it's not even real, but you can't stop it. So it's just like a small
Matt Gilhooly (10:14)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (10:17)
version of hell, you know, truly.
Matt Gilhooly (10:20)
Yeah, especially if you don't have people that it's not even the validation that like it's almost like the explanation at it. You know, like talk
Kate Saint Clair (10:27)
Something compassion.
Matt Gilhooly (10:29)
about it, you know, t were you able to talk to anyone about it, like your sister or people at school or okay.
Kate Saint Clair (10:35)
No. No.
I didn't I didn't tell anybody about it. 'Cause again I was a chatty kid and I was always asking the questions, but you'd get a hard like there's something wrong with you if you ask that. So but I also couldn't escape it. So it was this thing where you kind of just you just get labeled the bad kid 'cause I was always trying to figure out why. Like why are we treating each other like that, like this? Why is this happening to me? So it the whole spirit thing it
I just didn't have any answers. So it really set me on a lifelong quest to understand why I'm so sensitive. That was kind of what my message was. Well, you're so sensitive. Yeah, I was, but I was ashamed of that. So
Matt Gilhooly (11:11)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (11:11)
I really tried to be the tough kid and like I'm on phase. I'm fine. You know, left my hometown. I did real estate as a child as an eighteen year old realtor, but everyone thought I was about thirty five. So that performative, like, you know, I'm an adult. Well, I always had to be an adult 'cause I was pretty much on my own, you know.
Matt Gilhooly (11:27)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (11:28)
divorce and stuff. So moved to New York City at 21, made dreams come true, manipulated back to into the family fold, really lost myself. So the themes are really, I needed answers for the spirit stuff I was experiencing. I needed answers for the emotionality that I also convinced myself I didn't have.
You know, so when life sort of gave me the right moments, the right mentor came into my life and these right opportunities that I couldn't think myself into came. let's just say when I finally found a mentor, 'cause I was always trying to find help for my intuition, even though I'm old enough where we didn't really call well, you know, intuition really wasn't a thing when I was a kid. You know, like being psychic, like, are you kidding me? But yeah, like Sylvia got to be
Matt Gilhooly (12:16)
Sylvia Brown. Always on T V.
Kate Saint Clair (12:20)
Well, I'm special people, you know? And so it's like, well, I'm not special or I don't do it her way, so I must not
Matt Gilhooly (12:26)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (12:26)
be. So always kind of like trying to explore it while telling myself it's not happening and I don't have that, right?
Matt Gilhooly (12:32)
Right.
And it's also hard to or at the time, I don't know if it is now, this is my ignorance speaking, but hard to prove to other people that
that this is happening, right? And and I think the time period you almost have to prove. Or that's what society was asking you to do. Like prove like for me it was like, Okay, you're s you're you're not I was trying to prove that I wasn't sad anymore, that I wasn't broken, that I wasn't all these things, when really it would have been much easier to just show them that I was broken.
Kate Saint Clair (13:03)
Yeah. Well, I think I heard you discuss in an interview, it's like a lot of people don't have the capacity for the conversation of grief. And so instead of admitting that, they just change the subject
Matt Gilhooly (13:16)
yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (13:16)
or they lash out at you just to get you to like not pay attention or not to talk about that grief in you. So people do everything in the you know under the sun to try let's just say with my intuition, things I predicted did turn out. You know, but I also had a sister who would like
do everything to make me wrong. You know,
so like things worked out, but I also had characters in my life are like, no, not that way, or it wasn't exactly that way. Long story short, when I moved to New York City, I was 15 years old. And I tell you the story really quick how that so
Matt Gilhooly (13:49)
Of course. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (13:51)
these things are kind of the things that happen with my intuition. It's like I was 15 years old. I just got my Camaro, you know, I got my driver's license, got my job.
And I took a friend to Hastings music back in the day. And we went in there and she grabbed a tape cassette. And the next day she threw it at me and she said, This is for you. You know, and I looked at the cover and I listened to it and I had a knowing that I would meet the lead singer. I just knew it and it was real. And so I started to talk about that and tell everybody, you know.
I even had a boyfriend say, like, I don't know what is wrong with Kate. She just like thinks she's gonna meet this person, you know. Fast forward to I'm 20 years old and doing real estate and I had a deal go really wrong, so much that I was like, I'm I'm out of here. This is scary, it was horrible, you know. So I bought a train ticket to New York City on a whim. I was guided, but I didn't have that language, you know. I was in the city about three days and I met him. So that where you know, I think for all of us, big things can work out.
But you also don't believe it just worked out. you can't recreate it when you need it. So our mind is just kind of sitting there, not trusting it because we don't know how to control it. So long story short, I believe the conversation we're gonna talk about, if you wanna jump into it,
Matt Gilhooly (15:01)
Sure.
Yeah, lead
us to it. So well first let me just set set the idea of you. It feels like y part of you is very much like leaning into it personally, right? Leaning into
Kate Saint Clair (15:15)
It was actually more of fighting it. Like like praying it away.
Matt Gilhooly (15:17)
you were. Okay. Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (15:20)
Like takeaway you know the c sort of crescendo was
Honestly, when I saw it in my daughter when she was two years old, that's when I was like, I need answers and I need it now. So for me, I'd
Matt Gilhooly (15:28)
Hm, okay.
Kate Saint Clair (15:30)
try to read Sylvia's books or I'd, you know, read intuition books. I'd see like well, Silvia specifically said, I come from 300 l years of psychics. well, I didn't. I didn't at the time. It would
Matt Gilhooly (15:42)
That you know.
Kate Saint Clair (15:43)
take me about a decade to realize our whole family is psychic. Why Matt? Because everybody is, you know what I mean?
Matt Gilhooly (15:48)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (15:49)
But I would see something like that and go, Well, I don't, so I'm not, right?
Matt Gilhooly (15:52)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (15:53)
So now I'm we moved a couple times, but let's just say we just moved to Colorado. My daughter was only two years old, and we I took her to the park one day, as we were walking around a little lake, a man was walking towards us, and I heard a voice in my ear say, Pick her up and take her towards people, he'll follow you. So I picked up my toddler and we walked across the grass towards people, and sure enough, the man had turned around and started following us. And the thing that
kind of took my breath away was my two-year-old did not take her eyes off of him.
So in that moment I knew she got the same message. I didn't know what that was, you know, I'd had maybe, I didn't even know the language. I would call that Claire Audience. You know, I'd call that Claire Audience now. But I was just like a voice told me to move my daughter. You know, it all sounds ridiculous. But I was freaked out because I understood that, my gosh, she has this too. And I still don't understand it.
Matt Gilhooly (16:44)
Hm.
Kate Saint Clair (16:44)
So that's kind of where you go. You know, I'm driving home and I'm just begging God, please help me understand this so I can teach my children, so I could teach my daughter how this works. Cause I felt I felt beat up by it. I felt,
you know, like I couldn't turn off the sensitivity. I couldn't not see the spirits. And then so it was definitely something I pushed away. But in that moment I prayed, help me get a mentor. And I try to find a mentor, but
Now, some people real eccentric or you have to do it through this sort of religiosity or you know, sort of whatever. There's a gamut there. But
I ended up going to a Caroline Mace event about a week later in Fort Collins, Colorado. And when I opened the brochure, there was a local psychic medium in there. And I just knew that I'd schedule what I did is I scheduled a session with her. And the first thing she said to me when walking in was, you can do this work.
And I was like, I don't even understand how you know these things. How you know, how are you doing that? So that was like really the my life's mission was, but how, just because I could do it, I was not satisfied. How, how do you know things? How do you feel things? How do you get guided? How do you recreate it when you actually need it? You know, so those were definitely my and after getting having that first session with her, she put me in her mentorship group, and then my career was born.
So I did not expect that at all. But she put me in groups with strangers and I was able to read them accurately, their loved ones on the other side. And it was that situation in real time when I could read a stranger that I finally believed it.
Matt Gilhooly (18:17)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (18:18)
Finally believed it was real.
Matt Gilhooly (18:19)
Would you say that that the moment that what you heard in the park and what your daughter heard at the same time was was like a like a a trigger in a way, like in a good way, like to light the fire under your booty to to really like find find answers.
Kate Saint Clair (18:34)
Yeah. yeah,
you know, it's like when it ha when it's you, you're used to kind of not having the answers and searching and not getting the right teacher. You know, you kinda I was used to the frustration of it. But when it was her, I just think like I was not gonna rest until I got some mentorship. I was
not gonna
Matt Gilhooly (18:51)
'Cause you didn't
want her to feel like you did. Which I mean, I think that's a
Kate Saint Clair (18:54)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (18:56)
a good parent in any kind of situation.
Kate Saint Clair (18:58)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (18:59)
It could be any bullying situation, it could be anything. So to me, it it's it's interesting, like here I am. I mean, this is my podcast, so I can just make assumptions, but
Kate Saint Clair (19:12)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (19:12)
what I what I see or hear in your story is so much of this like tug of war.
if you will, of like it is, this is me, but I don't want it to be. But also it is. So I wanna pay attention to it. But no, I don't want to because I don't want other people to see me this way of however society wants to define you. But yes I do, because it could be really good. So it sounds like a lot of what I hear is a lot of like yes but or
No way, but
Kate Saint Clair (19:49)
Exactly. You're reading it exactly right. And and that was like kind of that crescendo where so that was in two thousand seven and I was pregnant with my second child. I ended up creating a career out of it. But I was also really resentful because I
just wanted it to have a normal life. I was not excited or I was not
I was so embarrassed to say I'm psychic medium for all my religious
training, you know, all the shame that I'd had. I had a lot of, well, who am I to tell a parent who lost a child about their child? You know, I had I was very
conscious of like, well, who am I to to help people? And then that's when I got that skin cancer, you know, over my heart.
And as a young mom, it's like your heart is obviously it's our heart.
But it's also like I couldn't hold my baby. I couldn't do all the things I sort of identified. I couldn't, you know, clean my house and like make a home. I couldn't carry stuff and protect my children. And that sort of physical vulnerability just it was like six months of just my guides, like, this is who you are, this is the work you've come to do on the planet, accept it, accept it, accept it, accept it. And it took about six months of them really kind of being really hard on me to like, this is the family I come from.
Those are the lessons I went through. Those are the losses I went through. I was pretty voiceless at the time. I'm here to have a voice and to use it. You
Matt Gilhooly (21:12)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (21:13)
know, I'm a psychic medium. I'm here to elevate it to the point where everybody actually has it. Cause I saw it in my career over and over and over. There wasn't a person I read. Let's just say the first 10 years of my career, I was pretty explicitly a medium. So I was mainly,
you know, I'd read for people and stuff. And
There wasn't a person when I said, your loved one told me this, or your loved one said this, that they didn't get that message themselves. So they didn't need the medium, is what I was like, why why do we even go to mediums? Because you are connecting and you know they're connecting with their loved ones. And that's when I realized it's a mechanical issue. People don't believe it because they don't understand how their clairs work. They don't understand
Matt Gilhooly (21:54)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (21:55)
the mechanics of their intuition, and that's where.
I actually shifted my career and that's where I started coaching people
Matt Gilhooly (22:02)
Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (22:02)
and created a methodology and a system and it works.
Matt Gilhooly (22:06)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (22:06)
It works.
Matt Gilhooly (22:07)
Yeah. I I I think there's a lot to be said there too. I think, you know, as I age and look back on the experiences that I had in my own what I call a big failure of grief for 20 years, I put up a lot of walls. I blocked a lot of things on purpose. And I think well, I guess it wasn't on purpose, it was subconsciously on purpose.
And you know, to protect myself and to make sure that I made it to a certain point into which I could be this person and reflect on those moments. But unknowingly, a lot of us that have done that, or at least I'll speak for myself, these walls are the hardest to break down. So, you know, like I when you were saying, you know, there's not one person that I read that hasn't had those thoughts, it's my mind immediately goes to my mom because
I don't remember her. And I think a lot of it is blocked, right? I mean, also I wasn't very old, so there's not a lot of memories to carry with me. But I I would venture to say, and this could be totally wrong, but if we were to do that, I don't know that I would be the one that'd be like, yeah. And I think it's because of all the blockages and the things that I put up that like to me, at this point in my life, it's
Sounds very terrible to say, but she's more of a like a figment of of like what a mom was. Like I remember her, but I don't remember her. So it's very interesting to me to to think about what you're saying and that everyone can't or everyone that's open enough or can follow your methodology or whatnot can do that. And then I'm like, nah-uh, you know, cause I'm stuck
Kate Saint Clair (23:53)
Mm-hmm.
Matt Gilhooly (23:54)
here. But I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy, but I do think of
of of that, of like how you must encounter these people that are severely blocked by whatever they've experienced in their own life. Do you find that there is a way to break through that with what you do, or do they have to go through other methods first to then like traditional therapy or EMDR or any of those kind of things? Do they do that first and then come to you?
Kate Saint Clair (24:22)
Listen, I when it comes to intuition, there are several X factors. And an X factor is
You know, you'd what what would happen is like let's talk about the X factor. The X factor is even right now, you connecting with your mom on the other side doesn't bring back her presence. It doesn't bring back her physicality. So there's a part of us that's like, if it's not the way it was, the don't even bother. Do you know what I mean? Like even me
Matt Gilhooly (24:50)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (24:52)
as a medium. And I sometimes my grandmother, who was basically my mom, she raised me.
She'll still come in and sometimes she actually comes through younger. I mean, she was st 62 when I was born and she'll come in like 30 and I'm like, Can get your grandma body on? I didn't know you. You know what I mean? So let's just say if I wasn't aware, I'd be like, Who's this young woman? And then push it away. I mean, so we the X factor is our humanity. The X factor is like I say with my grandma, and then I I I can talk to her, it's great. I can, you know, still connect with her.
But I can't look in her blue eyes the way I could look in her blue eyes. Right. So there is when we consciously it's like when we're ready to transcend the the truth that they're still in an energetic body. And that sucks. You
Matt Gilhooly (25:38)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (25:40)
know what I mean? It doesn't take away that pain of them not being physical, which is what makes life so precious. It's the physic, it's the touch and it's the so there are some sacred titles that will be a block.
Until you know enough about the mechanics, maybe I think this that everybody can come to that organically on their own time. I just want to also say, I have a a a friend and a client, and for let's just say for 15 years, she replays the last moment she talked to her mother over and over. And it's a traumatic moment. But she kind of yelled at her, you know, kind of just got a little snippy, a little bitchy, kind of snapped at her mom, and her mom left the room, died.
And for 15 years, she replaced that. And during a session, what came to be was she replaced that moment, though tragic, because it was the last time she spoke to her mother. So when she's ready, you know, and then through our work together, she's able to connect with her mom now in spirit form and get validation, you know, she can see, feel, know, and hear her mother. And the more that strengthens, the more it takes away the memory.
Of I'm gonna beat myself up because I was meaning my mother before she passed away. And that that's what made it real for her. So again, the X factor is our humanity. So we'll block
Matt Gilhooly (27:02)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (27:03)
it. We don't want to talk about it. Even and I see this especially with parents who've lost a child. They almost they don't want to hear from a medium. You
Matt Gilhooly (27:11)
Right.
Kate Saint Clair (27:12)
know, and that that was where with my skin cancer, I didn't want to be the weird medium. You know what I mean? Because I could I can feel people's like weirdness with me. And at the end of the day, I'm just a person too.
Matt Gilhooly (27:21)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (27:22)
You know, and my my my whole point is it's just available when and if you're ready. And if you're never ready, that's like who's to judge that? Nobody. You
Matt Gilhooly (27:29)
Yeah. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (27:32)
know.
Matt Gilhooly (27:33)
It feels like so much. It feels so heavy. Is it heavy? Or is it or okay. I don't want that responsibility. That you have. It just
Kate Saint Clair (27:35)
Yeah. Yeah. It definitely is. I think
Matt Gilhooly (27:43)
seems like a lot to I mean, maybe now that you have more awareness and and obviously create a career out of it, you can protect yourself where need be and not overwhelm. But it feels like it would be really overwhelming at certain parts, maybe that
first twenty years you were talking about. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (28:00)
Yeah.
Yeah. And I think when I trans, you know, transition my career from mediumship strictly to like, no, I'm gonna teach people how to use this, you
Matt Gilhooly (28:10)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (28:10)
know, ability. It's like a it's you know, people do call it a gift, but to me, your intuition is the language of your soul, and you're a soul, so you can't not use it. I mean, it is, you know, it's like that's what makes us good friends. If I look at, you know, if I if you and I jump on together.
Let's say tomorrow, you're gonna read me and you're gonna know if I'm in a great mood. You can feel it. You don't need me to tell you. You know, it makes
us good partners where it's like our partner doesn't have to say, This is what I'm thinking. We know, right? So all of our the ways we sh we connect with each other, those are through our clairs. You know,
Matt Gilhooly (28:42)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (28:43)
sometimes you're just like, I have to call so and so right now, and you just do it. And they're like, my god, I just thinking about you. Well, that's Claire cognizant, you know, and you just have a knowing, you just take action and you get validation in the in the moment. See, this is normal, like.
human-e behavior. So the Claire's are they all working. The the sort of mental hurdle for the mediumship is if it's real or not. And
Matt Gilhooly (29:07)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (29:07)
this kind of goes back to that conversation of grief where if we don't, if we have no one to talk to even about grief, how can we possibly start the conversation with the other side too?
Matt Gilhooly (29:18)
Right.
Kate Saint Clair (29:19)
You know, how do we make that real, if you will?
Matt Gilhooly (29:21)
Yeah. was the transition in your career too quiet some of kind of doing that? You know, because it it's not that what you're doing now is not hard work and and helping people through that, but I could imagine that it's a different kind of heavy when you're as a medium for someone else and trying to translate or
share
what's happening with I don't know the right words, so you'll have to forgive me. But you know, like but but sharing those pieces is probably really heavy at at times too to then you have to go back into your own life.
Kate Saint Clair (29:58)
Yeah, I I love that you say that. And it can depend on the moment. I feel like early in my career it was still heavy, but now I just have the straight up knowledge how this works and how what that learning crescendo looks like. So for example, I used to do ask a medium shows where I'd invite 15 guests and read every single guest in front of each guest. And I I think it was just my
first ask a medium show or something. There was a a client named April there. And she'd asked sort of just a question about her dad. And I didn't know if her dad was living or still here or what have you. And I just simply said to her,
She's like, what was the m-I guess it was something about what was the message from my father? And I didn't know her. I didn't know who her father was or anything. And he he on the other side showed me that he sent clouds. So this is the other part of my career where I feel stupid saying that.
Matt Gilhooly (30:49)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (30:50)
cloud. I just you know, you feel like you're pulling it out if you know. my
Matt Gilhooly (30:53)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (30:54)
gosh. So she and her mom turned to each other and they started to cry. And she showed me a picture. They just went to California and they literally took a picture of the clouds.
Because they knew it was from him.
Matt Gilhooly (31:05)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (31:05)
So when I when you get that immediate validation, you're like, okay, not so stupid. Well, thank God it made sense, you know. But you never know. You never if you'll just sound
Matt Gilhooly (31:11)
Yeah. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (31:13)
ridiculous. So let's just say she came to me for a private reading, and I right away there was like a great Aunt Betty that came in first, and I'm like, I know she's not here to talk to great Aunt Betty, you know, and then another
Matt Gilhooly (31:25)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (31:26)
soul came, you know, another family member on the other side. I'm like, this is not why she's here.
So sure enough, this was really early in my career, and I said, honey, I'm so sorry. I just keep hearing the name Bruce, but I can't see him. And she started to cry and she said, That's my dad. And I was like, I was confused because I was like, why can't I see him though? Then I realized he was watching the other two women go who are really good communicators. I could see him smoking. I could see their attitude. I could see all that. And so he was really like the first soul that taught me he wasn't good at it.
He was watching the other women go first. And then he stepped in. To this day, April is now a psychic medium. She has a career in Colorado. I trained her, taught her, she takes clients and helps. Today, Bruce is a great communicator.
Matt Gilhooly (32:13)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (32:13)
So I understand the crescendo of sometimes our loved ones aren't very good on the other side at getting us messages. And I can teach people how to talk to them to encourage.
know and of course the boundary of making sure we're talking to our loved one not a ghost or some weird you know environmental
Matt Gilhooly (32:31)
Right.
Kate Saint Clair (32:32)
whatever and to get evidence for that to build that and it's it's a relationship you know
Matt Gilhooly (32:38)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (32:39)
trusting our clares which is how we receive that intuitive information it takes time it takes time to strengthen and then to trust that and it all just takes time Matt you know like any relationship
Matt Gilhooly (32:48)
Yeah.
Yeah. Well, I guess I was thinking the heaviness of it would not necessarily is not necessarily from translating messages or sharing messages with the other one. It's how the other cause like you also have to hold that other person that's in the room with you and how they react and people, you know, that's a lot sometimes to to be around and to
Hold that space long enough without deteriorating your own being.
Kate Saint Clair (33:22)
A story for that. Do you want to hear it?
Matt Gilhooly (33:23)
Yeah, of course.
Kate Saint Clair (33:27)
So before the cancer, early in my career, so like three, four years into my career, my husband. somebody referred a man from my husband's company to have a reading with me. So he comes in and his family on the other side, they're so evidential, they're so lovely. He's crying. The messages are just amazing.
So of course he's like, I want to send you my mother in law. She's 90 years old. this so this would be his wife's mother. And she her husband had just passed away, you know. So I was like, okay, I'd be honored to. I was thinking, same family on the other side. I don't like to read several different families on the other side because they're like people and it's hard to even they like won't be quiet when you need them to. So all that took me years to figure out how to even tell everybody, please be quiet, because otherwise I don't hear anything. I just thought I was failing.
So I'm like, no, the nature of this they all talk and nobody shuts up. So the the lovely elderly woman comes into my office for her reading, and his wife comes too. So she's in her 60s. I could feel her immediately. She did not like me. I I'm psychic. I could feel it. I knew it. I was like, whatever. I'm going to still do the best job I can. And all I can do is be as
focus as I can and you know give as much evidential information as I can. So the second we sat down, he was such a great communicator, Matt. I s he showed me, I said, he's writing you love notes. And she said, yes, he wrote me a love note every day of our lives. And he's I said, I said he's showing me he he's putting on your coat. Again, I feel ridiculous. Putting you know God, what
Matt Gilhooly (35:05)
Yeah, yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (35:06)
if he never put her quote? She said he put my coat on every day of our lives. We're married like 70 years or something.
and and he was such a good communicator and the whole time I could feel the daughter rolling her eyes at
Matt Gilhooly (35:18)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (35:18)
being really pissy, you know. So I finally about half hour in, I couldn't take it. I couldn't handle that. So I said, I'm so sorry. Is there something, you know, is there something that you want to say? She said, I just thought you'd say his name. You know, so now I'm saying to him, I could have gotten your name from the get-go. Why didn't, you know, now I'm mad at him. She
gets her mom and they left, literally.
I I was, I was like horrified. So I'm mad at him. So what he said to me, Matt, was like, she doesn't get to control the situation. what's that? Where you're managing the clients and you're
Matt Gilhooly (35:50)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (35:51)
and then he doesn't, you know, and then the other husband could have told me, you know, the man's name, like, but I can get names. So I was mad at the spirit, and it really did send me into kind of a professional crisis.
Matt Gilhooly (36:02)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (36:02)
And what it helped me sort of confront, and then I had the skin cancer scare.
Finally accepted this is my job, this is what I'm born to do. There's a way I'm going to do it that's a little bit different and makes peace with my family, you know, and all of that. so now I'm I'm really comfortable just telling people. And I would like I felt her annoyance with me right away. Today I'd address that.
Matt Gilhooly (36:25)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (36:26)
I wouldn't pretend that's not happening. You know what I mean? So it
Matt Gilhooly (36:29)
Yeah, yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (36:30)
helped me just learn different boundaries, like you said, because it is a heavy, it's a heavy moment. And it's something
Matt Gilhooly (36:34)
Seems like it would be.
Kate Saint Clair (36:35)
that's gonna
you know, make it hard for all of us. Let's just not do it. You know, that's
Matt Gilhooly (36:39)
Mm, fair.
Kate Saint Clair (36:40)
okay too.
Matt Gilhooly (36:41)
Yeah. So would you say there's like a before and after that park moment where you felt different, a before and after between the park moment and the skin cancer and then now? Would you say that there's like different versions of you there? And what would be the biggest difference between you now and those versions of you?
Kate Saint Clair (37:01)
So always deferring, you know, before the skin cancer, I'd ask my husband, I'd ask everybody else under the sun, what do you think about this? You know, I would say trying to be a good wife, good Catholic, good girl, deferring, deferring. So the skin cancer, I was just like, I'm a leader. This is what I'm born to do. And I do have authority about it because I never settled for just being able to do it. I I had to know the mechanics, and I do know.
I never settled until I got the answers, you know. And so post-cancer, I just accepted myself. Like no more feeling sorry for myself that my family was destroyed when I was five, six years old from the divorce. No more feeling like a victim because my mom and dad don't like me, you know, and told me I would never succeed, I'd never amount to anything. You know, realizing my husband is a leader in his way, but in the family, I'm the leader. So I just took over, you know, total authority in the family and he's happy. You know what I mean?
I am a big visionary. I have a big heart. I have that emotional capacity. So why not?
Matt Gilhooly (38:02)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (38:02)
So I really just stepped into le leadership there. And it was like, you know, he could go do his job, come home and relax a little bit. Cause I wasn't like, well, what are you going to do about it? You know, just really fully stepped into myself, stepped into I'm a psychic medium. You know, what am I going to do? Blush every single time I say that, or am I just going to say it? I start
Matt Gilhooly (38:19)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (38:20)
to like normalize it. You know, it's perverted in our
culture, especially when we were young, that was like a Hollywood thing and like, it just means like something esoteric or weird. And you know, psychic means of the soul. And we're all souls. So at the end of the day, that word's not that weird.
Matt Gilhooly (38:35)
Yeah, it was very growing up it was very woo-woo, right? Like that's how we defined it because we didn't know anything. We don't know anything. And
Kate Saint Clair (38:42)
That's funny. Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (38:43)
still lots of people don't know anything, including myself. There's a lot of things I don't know, and that's okay.
Kate Saint Clair (38:47)
We do still.
Matt Gilhooly (38:48)
I w when you were mentioning how you kind of stepped into this, two tracks came in my mind. So one is how does your husband relate to all of the your
what you who you are and what you do.
Kate Saint Clair (39:03)
So I get this all the time where my husband's an engineer. So very black and white thinking. I live in the gray. I'm everything everything's an and to me, you know.
Matt Gilhooly (39:08)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (39:12)
You can both be super happy and still feel sad. You know,
Matt Gilhooly (39:15)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (39:15)
like in his brain, that can't happen. So the first thing I'd say going back when I found my mentor, we did not have the money. I had two little babies. I didn't even have the time for it. And I just said, listen, I have to do this.
And I think he interpreted it, you know, twenty years ago like, Are you gonna become a know it all? Like you're already a know it all. This is gonna worse. You know what I mean?
So I I was like, I understood he didn't understand. He didn't
see the spirits, he didn't feel anybody else's feelings but his own. You know, it's like I understood he just didn't understand. And I was like, I'm still doing it, right? So he's just watched me grow, grow, grow, grow. And he's been
There's no words for it because at the same time he's supportive, but he really doesn't even ask me about it.
And that that used to hurt my feelings. But then I realized through the skin cancer, he doesn't love me from my gift. He loves me. And he doesn't care about how talented I am or how I use it. He just loves me. So this comes up a lot with clients where like the husband's very logical, what have you.
And at the end of the day, does he have to understand it or does she have to understand it? Not not really. It doesn't change, you know, whether it gr be grief, whatever it is in us. They may not understand it, but they do have to respect it.
And to me, that's that fine line. And he does. He's really proud of me and always walks the line between like loving it and then making sure I know it doesn't matter. Cause he loves me,
Matt Gilhooly (40:42)
Mm, yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (40:43)
you know.
Matt Gilhooly (40:44)
I mean that's im that's that's wonderful. Is it
Kate Saint Clair (40:47)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (40:48)
hard not to r to read him?
Kate Saint Clair (40:52)
Yeah, I can't not read.
Yeah, I read him all the time. And he definitely is like, ugh, get off of me, you know. Just stop. Or he'll find me or he'll be a contrarian. And it's really cute because my daughter is just like him. So very linear, very black and white. And my son's just like me. So he was the toddler that saw the spirits. I'm not a kidding that there was a time when he was two. Clairvoyance was a little bit harder for me because it was
so open when I was a kid, I'd see spirits everywhere. I worked really hard to shut it down and shut it down. You know, when you're really empathic, you're like, I can't have any feelings. Cause I'm just my feelings are
Matt Gilhooly (41:26)
Yeah. It's too much.
Kate Saint Clair (41:28)
wild. Yeah. So he toddles down at two years old, like mom, the spirits in there. I was like, I was hoping I was imagining that. You know, even so it's just beautiful where you just see there's a a natural gift to the the variance in it. So my son and I can really talk it up.
And then never stop talking because we're passionate about it, you know, and we all feel so many things. We could talk and he sees, but you know it could be exhausting, right, Matt? It's like, okay, turn it off a minute. So
Matt Gilhooly (41:57)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (41:57)
it's nice actually to be in partnership with that yin yin where he can just kind of I'd say he and my daughter really taught me boundaries I would have never had if I hadn't watched them not care. You
Matt Gilhooly (42:10)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (42:10)
know what I mean? In the most humane way. Like how
Matt Gilhooly (42:13)
Right.
Kate Saint Clair (42:13)
is this every how is this your problem?
I'm like, because I can feel it. Well, actually not even my business, let alone my pro you know what I mean? So that
Matt Gilhooly (42:19)
Yeah. That's good. I mean
Kate Saint Clair (42:22)
took a long time to learn some boundaries and not like insert myself just because I could pick up the information, you know what I mean? Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (42:29)
Yeah. That's
that's that's like one of my like what I envision, like some you walking out in public and you just can't go anywhere because they're everywhere. It's
Kate Saint Clair (42:39)
When I was yeah. When I was
untrained, and that that's another like gift to understanding your intuition, then you finally get some control around it. And I always say, the more you understand that you're a soul you're a spirit, the more human you get to be. You
Matt Gilhooly (42:52)
Hm.
Kate Saint Clair (42:53)
know what I mean? We're not here to try to be spirits, we are. You can't possibly be more of a spirit than you already are in this moment. You can understand how that works mechanically a little bit, but when you kind of understand it, you can kind of get over it and then be more human, you know, have the
Matt Gilhooly (43:05)
Hm. I like
that.
Kate Saint Clair (43:07)
Have the have the food together, you know, share a hug, you know, all the things like that makes us human
Matt Gilhooly (43:14)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (43:15)
and enjoy that.
Matt Gilhooly (43:16)
What I really I I'm gonna say this first. What I what I really appreciate about you is your humanness and talking about this and recognizing how others, including yourself, might feel about certain things you say because of what you're doing or what you see. And you know, and I think that is so refreshing because if we think about anyone else's profession, that they come out here and tell us they're
You know, I'm an expert in this, which you're an expert in your own thing when what you do, they want to sell us the points and not necessarily give us like the understanding of how others may perceive this, how you as a walking human understand this and see it and think it's weird at certain times when you're saying thing you know, like I really appreciate that because I don't know, it just it's so much more palatable.
than what you know, when I was a kid growing up watching a medium or a psychic on T V and going, What do they know? You know, like it's it's nice to see a human that feels real talking about it in the way that you do.
Kate Saint Clair (44:28)
Well, I think we I don't know what people forget about that. I mean, I d I don't understand. I had all the same feelings. I had all the same doubts. I had all
Matt Gilhooly (44:36)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (44:36)
the same like who the hell am I? You know, I had all and it it had to go kind of severe. And maybe I can I I have come to thank my childhood for that where my voice was taken away. So I know what it's like to fight for your voice. You know,
Matt Gilhooly (44:47)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (44:49)
and I know what it's like to not feel worthy. And I know what it's like to you know, all the things. You're like your intuition. That's too good, that's too special.
I I can't possibly have that. And it's like I had to work through it. And then you, you know, you understand it with your and that's the other thing. If we don't understand it, who cares? Now
Matt Gilhooly (45:06)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (45:07)
there's a time when I moved to New York City and yeah, magical, amazing things happened for me and I was severely lost still. Didn't know if I belonged. I didn't know what the hell I was here to do, you know, professionally or what have you. And a friend was like, You should go to a psychic. And I'm like, you know, it like again, like I had all the attitudes.
really needed some guidance. So you go in there
and you know you don't know what to expect. She kept talking about a basement and a blue balloon. I have no idea to this day what the hell she's talking about. So I I would say if she was a student of mine, her intuition's still unrefined. The blue balloon, I we let's ask some questions. Does that mean you're gonna have a son? I did.
Matt Gilhooly (45:46)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (45:47)
Like what the hell does the blue you know but some people this is great.
Matt Gilhooly (45:49)
Right. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (45:51)
I mean that's just that's intuition at it's like
basic where we can get,
Matt Gilhooly (45:56)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (45:56)
you know, random symbols and images and pick up random feelings. Those are just that's just wild intuition. But the work of it is how can we refine it? Because it's every single person, it's unrefined when they don't know how it works. And my job is to help you narrow it down so it actually makes a difference to you in your life.
Matt Gilhooly (46:15)
Yeah, that makes sense.
Kate Saint Clair (46:18)
It's like having like radio signals playing. And it's maybe you want
Matt Gilhooly (46:22)
That sounds too loud.
Kate Saint Clair (46:22)
to hear one song. Yeah. Exactly. If you want to
Matt Gilhooly (46:25)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (46:25)
hear one station, you gotta turn the other stuff off.
Matt Gilhooly (46:28)
Yeah, I would turn it all off. It's
so I don't like sounds sometimes.
Kate Saint Clair (46:33)
Ooh, would that make sense? Mm-hmm.
Matt Gilhooly (46:37)
some of that other track that I was thinking of, this might be an inappropriate question. Hopefully it's not, but as it relates to your Catholic upbringing and are you still religious in that way? for some reason my brain thinks one can't exist with the other.
I
don't know why.
Kate Saint Clair (46:54)
Yeah, I mean I've made a peace with it. I've had good friends that were Catholic priests, and I asked them all the questions and the hip,
Matt Gilhooly (47:01)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (47:02)
you know, hypocrisy and the why is this, why is that? And so there's a part of the ritualness you can't get out of you, you know, like talking to Jesus and the Holy Mother. And there was a time in my childhood, which is interesting that the church was the safest place for me when I was a little girl. So being raised Catholic.
We'd literally just walk down to the church together on Sunday. All of our friends were like you know, church people. We'd cringle at Christmas time and do all the things. And then when the divorce happened, nobody would talk to us. So we had that like humiliation of the divorce family. And this is the 80s, so it was like not super common, you know, at all.
And my mother once said, because I said, Well, why can't I why can't I go play with them? And she said, Well, they said we don't hang out with divorced people. And I never forgot that.
Matt Gilhooly (47:50)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (47:50)
You know, later when
I was a teenager, I actually confronted them and they said we never said that. Because I couldn't make peace with that. So my mom telling the truth, maybe not. And maybe other things happened. Maybe, yeah. Yep.
Matt Gilhooly (48:00)
Or just assuming that she was broken, yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (48:04)
But sh one of the things she did was she kept singing in the folk groups. My mother's a musician and she led the folk group. So even after the divorce, my whole week was spent at the Catholic Church. So my while she'd be
rehearsing on like Tuesdays and Thursdays. I had the whole chapel to myself in the dark. You know, and I would just Yeah. Well it was okay that like do
Matt Gilhooly (48:29)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (48:29)
the holy water, I would just sit, you know, and kind of just pray. And I really did feel
Matt Gilhooly (48:33)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (48:34)
like outside of that moment there was so much pain. And I had so many questions I would just bring to the chapel by myself in the dark. And so in that moment I felt held and safe.
And then on Wednesdays it was C C D. You know, so meanwhile, lots of other kind of stuff that's not in alignment with the truth of the soul, but there are still some forms of it that, you know, my grandmother was a staunch, you know, Catholic woman, and
Matt Gilhooly (49:00)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (49:01)
it's just a part of who I am. Absolutely.
Matt Gilhooly (49:02)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,
I I didn't mean anything by that. I just, you know.
Kate Saint Clair (49:08)
I know. It's
like I think it's a great question 'cause people it comes up. If anytime somebody's like a Catholic, we have to talk about it.
Matt Gilhooly (49:15)
Well it's
I don't even I think if you had said any other religion
Kate Saint Clair (49:18)
I know, right?
Matt Gilhooly (49:19)
or denomination or anything, I would still ask that question. You know, I grew up in a Catholic family that was not very Catholic. Like we would go on Easter and Christmas and, you know,
Kate Saint Clair (49:29)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (49:30)
do our holidays. but also as I've grown up and and the experience that I had when my mom died and how I felt about all that, I've really detached myself from any kind of organized religion. Not that I'm not
Not
that I don't have faith or some kind of spiritual connection to something, but the organized religion was always hard for me. And and so the reason I asked that question is because it just seems like some of the things you would see or hear and do in your career would tell you opposite of what maybe you grew up with or what this particular rules and established rules of that religion would be. So that was really where that question came from.
Kate Saint Clair (50:10)
Well, think that's a good you know, and i and I have. I've read the Bible several times when I was a teenager and then I kind of went away from the church angry and pissed off and you know, all the things. And you know, at the end of the day, Christ com says to us, you can do these things and more. Right. And so Christ can heal, if Christ can, you know, do all these things. It was a calling that we can too. And so it's so interesting because I feel like, you know, Christmas is that like time of year that actually normalizes my day to day life with the angels and with
Matt Gilhooly (50:38)
Hm.
Kate Saint Clair (50:39)
souls and that
Matt Gilhooly (50:39)
Interesting.
Kate Saint Clair (50:40)
holy birth and if you think I have a meditation where it's like the night you were born. I mean think of what heaven was doing when you were born. Beautiful. Love it. Love it.
Matt Gilhooly (50:48)
It was raining when I was born. They were bowling or crying or whatever it was.
Kate Saint Clair (50:55)
Well that was the folks. Yeah I get it. Folks are having a good time.
Matt Gilhooly (51:00)
Yeah, no, I I think it's you know, I love this conversation. I think there is still always a part of me that remains somewhat skeptical, and maybe not of you, but of the idea of it, because maybe myself I haven't really experienced the things that you teach people how to experience, right? Or I haven't taken notice of if I have.
I have been to mediums before because but I will say I went because I was in desperate need of some kind of validation or or some kind of I went when I felt the most empty in hopes that something could fill it. Did it? I don't know. I think it felt good at the time. but I don't know why I'm saying all this, but
Just sharing that I think it's it's great what you do and how you share what you do because it doesn't feel like s some of the other stuff out there.
Kate Saint Clair (52:04)
I I d I I I know exactly what you're saying, and I think that's why I'm so passionate about it is because I've had so many of my clients again, the parent who lost the kid. Just because I can talk to your kid does not make you feel better. It doesn't.
Matt Gilhooly (52:18)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (52:20)
Okay, they're there. They you sang a song together. Great. It doesn't bring them back. And if I can do it, who gives a crap, quite frankly? So that's why it's
It's just I want to talk about it to invite you to the table if
Matt Gilhooly (52:34)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (52:35)
anyone's ready. You know, and it
Matt Gilhooly (52:37)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (52:37)
starts out small, like so I create that pivotal moment. I had the reading with my mentor. She said, You can do this stuff. I'm like, I don't understand what you're doing. She put me in her group. That was the first time I sat in front of a stranger, said, I don't know. I see a child on the other side with black hair, and he has this little toy. And the parent was like, That's my son. He's four. You know, he just passed away and my head's like so.
I recreate that specific moment. I have a program called the Claire Club. This is how it looks. I say, read this. I say, don't think about it. Just write down what you see, no, feel, and hear, ready, set, go, do it. People are like, I don't know. Just start writing down. Let's just
Matt Gilhooly (53:15)
But yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (53:16)
so what happens is like say a woman who came in recently. No, she's been there about a half a year.
I don't know what you guys are doing. I don't know what you guys are talking about. I've never had an experience. Okay. I say, you know, read this person. So she doesn't know what she's doing. She's writing down, thinks like she's making it up.
Matt Gilhooly (53:34)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (53:34)
And then when they tell me, I say, okay, what did you get? And I just say, they just read for just a minute. It's not like a big reading and it's tiresome. You just for one minute. What do you see? No filler here. So she writes down. I guess this particular day I had them read for April and they were reading Bruce Herf.
So gonna she gave me permission to say her name. Sure, her name's Audrey. It was the first time she was at group. She goes, I don't know. I see a man with a goatee, plays the guitar, and then she names certain other characters. April validated every single word
she said. Audrey's like, I don't know. I see like a I he's showing me like a weird or I see this like weird, this big gray sweatshirt. And April like starts to cry and says, I wear his gray sweatshirt to this day.
So this is what I'm talking about, where we have to prove it to ourselves. And
it's in that little there's a precious moment of I don't know. All right, now when I see no feeling here, you're talking to a stranger, that's important, because we don't know, we know we don't know anything about them, and to get immediate validation, right? Starts
to connect the neurons to like, well, did I see it? Did I like how did I know that? How did I experience it? I.e., which clair did that come through? So
It's those little moments in that, just that little formula that starts to build that trust. And now she's like, I can hear the voice. I can hear the guidance. When I have an image, I actually go, was this my sister or is this for me? Or is this my son? You know, like whose image is this for? So, and recently, just really quick, I had another interview with a gentleman and he confessed the same thing. Like, it's okay, I don't know if I love mediums, I don't know if I believe in it.
And I said the same thing I say to you, but at the end of the day, if Kate can talk to your son, who cares?
Matt Gilhooly (55:19)
Mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (55:19)
You can't. Who cares what I can do? I'm more excited about what you can do. You know, and it's like at the end of the day, that that's what matters. And like
Matt Gilhooly (55:27)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (55:27)
you said, what when we started this conversation, of course you would have a block. You know, if our loved ones don't show us the way we wanted to, especially when we're like, okay, I'm gonna say one more story. Can I do we have time? Okay.
Matt Gilhooly (55:38)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go for it.
Kate Saint Clair (55:40)
When I was I guess I was five or six.
And my sister had come out. She's I was roller skating in the driveway. And my sister came out. So at four years old, I very consciously would talk to my grandfather at the table. My grandfather, who'd crossed over in 1962 or so, as a little kid, I would sit at my grandma's table and everybody would talk about him, but not to him. But he was sitting there. So in my little brain, I'm like, why are they not talking to you? Right. And so he'd answer me, whatever.
But when I was sick, so I just started to notice I'm not gonna talk to him either, since they're not talking to him, but privately I'd still talk to him. When last roller skating, my sister came out, she said, Mom and Dad are getting a divorce. I didn't know what the hell that meant. You know, I was a little okay, but whatever, I'm gonna be with dad, you know. I don't
Matt Gilhooly (56:28)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (56:28)
know what that means, but I wanna hang out with dad because he's fun. And I felt really scared, so I went inside and I shut the bathroom door and I said to my grandfather, show me.
you with my eyes or I can't talk to you anymore. That was kind of how
Matt Gilhooly (56:43)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (56:43)
I dealt with the trauma of that moment. Like and of course he couldn't manifest. I mean he's on, he's in a different dimension. And from that moment on, I said you didn't do it that way. I I never talked to him again
Matt Gilhooly (56:56)
Mm.
Kate Saint Clair (56:56)
until I was like probably in my twenties and I said sorry. But I actively
Matt Gilhooly (57:00)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (57:01)
ignored him because he didn't do it my way. And as a little brain, of course we do all those little promises and you know we need
Matt Gilhooly (57:08)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (57:09)
and they can't be there the way we want them to be. So we do we have all kinds of mechanisms to block it out and shut it down for sure.
Matt Gilhooly (57:15)
Yeah.
Well, I I love that you took what you now know is is is yours and you can own it as as much as you want to proudly. But I love that you took that and now you're trying to help other people, not by way of a single reading, but by helping people tune into what they so desperately want to tune into and in a in a very authentic way. I think it's a really refreshing way.
that you've kind of pivoted this. So kudos to you for for finding that avenue in which you could help people more long term.
Kate Saint Clair (57:51)
It's the fishing analogy, right? Like you're gonna
Matt Gilhooly (57:53)
Yeah, mm-hmm.
Kate Saint Clair (57:54)
get hungry because you're a person, you need to eat three times a day. And what if I'm busy? What are you not gonna eat? You know,
Matt Gilhooly (58:00)
Right. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (58:02)
or I've had mentors that would not teach me. You know, like I had to learn how to douse because I didn't have any like protective mechanisms. So I was just kind of willy nilly with my energy
Matt Gilhooly (58:13)
Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (58:13)
and then I got into some trouble because I try to help too many people and I didn't a protocol to kind of clean my energy.
I was able to get some help and he wouldn't teach me. His whole methodology was just pay me what for the rest of our lives? No way. So for eight years I took notes and now I can do it myself. And now I teach others. So I just go around him, like, okay, this is what you say every time, then this is the formula, and I'm gonna teach others how to do it because that we're not doing that. That's like old-fashioned. I feel
Matt Gilhooly (58:39)
Yeah. Yeah.
Kate Saint Clair (58:41)
like in this new era that we're in, we gotta be able to do it ourselves. We gotta be able to trust ourselves, guided
Matt Gilhooly (58:46)
I love it.
Kate Saint Clair (58:47)
by ourselves.
know what's right for us and not because, you know, our psychic's on vacation. Give me a break. No.
Matt Gilhooly (58:54)
I love I love your honesty. It's so refreshing. It it I don't know how else to say it. I don't know. I'm just gonna say that. I I really appreciate you. I could talk about all this stuff all day long, but obviously, you know, we'll run out of time at some point. But I I think this is a good place to see how people could connect with you, learn more about you, find your book, your upcoming book, like.
someone is is impacted by what you've shared today and they wanna reach out to you, what's the best way to find you?
Kate Saint Clair (59:27)
It's just my name. So KateSaintclair.com. And I've really curated programs for, you know, there's the free stuff, the newsletter, there's the social media, and I love to share tips and just talk about it because I could talk about it all day. And then there's the Be Guided and Be Great. that book is available anywhere, really. And I just wrote actually the precursor called the Intuition Codes. Cause Matt, I realize a lot of people read Be Guided and Be Great. It's a little bit more advanced.
So intuition codes is the precursor where I really start the conversation that you are establishing you two are already intuitive. I didn't realize that a lot of people don't understand that, you know, because I had to fight so hard to understand it myself. I'm like, yes, of course. So be guided and be great is out there. The Claire Club is a $49 a month, $47 a month price point. It's just every other Friday, and you just come in for one hour, two exercises, experience, validation.
And it's over. It's on a Friday, so we keep a Friday vibe. It's fun, it's fast. You know, there's no
Matt Gilhooly (1:00:30)
Nice.
Kate Saint Clair (1:00:30)
competition. The only competition is with your own mind and your own neurology, you know. And then, of course, I have a six-month embodiment program. If somebody's like, no, I haven't I'm really intuitive, I just don't understand it. I can't control it. I really need a little bit more help. We have a six-month program, and then I do have private coaching for somebody who's really been through it, really needs that, like holding their hand.
looking and then really going back through their story to reframe it so they can kind of start going forward in a new way. So I try to hit
Matt Gilhooly (1:01:01)
Nice.
Kate Saint Clair (1:01:01)
everybody at different points there.
Matt Gilhooly (1:01:04)
Nice. Well, I'll put the links or the link in the show notes just so people have easy access to it. I do I will encourage them to do something that you may not like, but maybe you will. I know like when we started this out, the power of storytelling, and I just always want to encourage people to share their story in some way, or if some something someone said impacted them or made them feel validated or
I don't know, made them feel less alone. So what I encourage listeners to do is if for some something in Kate's story maybe resonated with you or you've never shared that piece before, find a way to reach out to Kate and just tell her. Just tell her a little bit of your story. There is so much power in getting it out of your body and into some other place. It it's for me, it takes this huge weight off. It makes things feel more palatable.
makes me feel more connected to people. So I really encourage people to reach out to you and just share part of their story if if something you said inspires them to do. Okay.
Kate Saint Clair (1:02:03)
I love
that that makes me remember. We do have a little quiz that people really do love where you could just answer a couple questions and it's called The Which Claire Are You? So kind of trying to give you that feedback of which how do you really experience your intuition right here, right now? So that's available on the website too. I think it's a pop up, so
Matt Gilhooly (1:02:20)
Cool. Well, I I I I love a plug, so we we gotta do it, right? That's the part I hate about of
doing that for myself. I don't love that. so
Kate Saint Clair (1:02:30)
Yeah.
Matt Gilhooly (1:02:33)
good for you for doing it. thank you for this. Thank you for answering the questions, you know, going rolling with the punches and whatever they whatever they came. I really appreciate you.
Kate Saint Clair (1:02:43)
Yeah, absolutely, Matt. I've enjoyed it. And and through your vulnerability and sharing your story, we can have honest conversations here. I just loved it. Thank you.
Matt Gilhooly (1:02:50)
That's the goal.
Yeah. That's the goal. And with that I'm just gonna say goodbye and I'll be back in a couple of days with a brand new episode. Thanks again for being a part of this, Kate.
Kate Saint Clair (1:02:59)
Thank you.
